We Are More Than Just Outdoor Advertising

Today, JCDecaux is the world’s leading company in the design, installation, and maintenance of advertising-funded street furniture and has long-term cooperative agreements with approximately 4000 cities in 85 different countries. With smart, innovative, and attractive solutions (Smart City), we improve life in public spaces. Municipalities are offered well-maintained street furniture of high quality and attractive design. JCDecaux has installed about 9,000 street furniture units in the country, including 3000 bus shelters, 70 fully automated toilets, 1500 city information boards, and over 3000 trash bins. Everything is funded by advertising and costs taxpayers nothing.

Our mission

JCDecaux’s mission is to offer advertising-funded street furniture such as bus shelters, public toilets, city information panels, trash bins, bike rental systems, and much more, at no cost to major cities worldwide. Investment, maintenance, and prompt action against all forms of vandalism for these street furniture units are always part of JCDecaux’s commitments to the cities we partner with.

”My whole career has been driven by a constant desire for excellence, a strong emphasis on design and an obsession with always, always using our advertising-based business model to serve the community.”

–Jean-Claude Decaux, the founder of JCDecaux

Innovation

In 1964, JCDecaux invented the designed bus shelter with integrated advertising display to benefit public transport passengers. JCDecaux has its own development department that creates concepts for new innovative street furniture to contribute to a beautiful, functional, clean, and safe urban environment in the cities we collaborate with. A significant investment in product development since the beginning in 1964 has been the foundation of JCDecaux’s success. We hold over 900 patents for various innovations in street furniture, ranging from bus shelters and traffic information systems to fully automated public toilets and recycling stations.

E-tree

Europe’s first eTree was installed in the French city of Nevers to highlight the city’s digital engagement. The tree-like street furniture is equipped with solar panels and provides residents with free amenities such as community information, Wi-Fi, mobile charging stations, a drinking water fountain, and evening lighting. This project is the first in a series from a long-term collaboration between JCDecaux and the startup company Solar Tree Europ, which created the solar-powered connection for the street furniture.

Public Accessible Toilets

We design and deliver public toilets completely free of charge to our cities. We are responsible for service and operation of the toilets, which, thanks to their technology, are always kept clean and fresh with automatic cleaning after each use.

Bus Shelters

JCDecaux invented the first designed bus shelter with integrated advertising display in 1964 to benefit public transport passengers. Sedum roofs on bus shelters are a small measure with a big impact. The roof vegetation reduces noise, absorbs exhaust gases, and decreases the risk of street flooding, as a 6 m² sedum roof binds 100 liters of water.

Premium

JCDecaux produces all street furniture in its own facilities in France to ensure long life, sustainability, ease of maintenance, and recyclability. The street furniture is meant to fulfill a concrete function in the urban environment and meet high standards of accessibility and customization.

Bike Rental Systems

JCDecaux has developed, installed, and managed the operation of advertising-funded bike rental systems since 2003. All of our existing bike rental systems have been continuously improved based on the experience we have gained over time. With approximately 47,000 bikes, 3,650 stations, and over 225 million recorded rentals, JCDecaux is today the world’s leading company in bike rental systems.

Sustainability

A significant investment in product development since the beginning in 1964 has been the foundation of JCDecaux’s success. JCDecaux has its own development department of 100 people who exclusively create concepts for new innovative street furniture to contribute to a beautiful, functional, clean, and safe urban environment in the cities we collaborate with. JCDecaux produces all street furniture in its own facilities in France to ensure long life, sustainability, ease of maintenance, and recyclability. JCDecaux is certified according to the quality management system ISO 9001.

Escale Numérique

Escale Numérique, “Digital Break” in French, is the successful result of a close collaboration between JCDecaux and designer Mathieu Lahanneur. This urban development project in Paris aimed to create a beautiful bus shelter in a harmonious and peaceful atmosphere where city residents can enjoy free Wi-Fi and city information via a digital screen.

Design

For our founder, Jean-Claude, quality and design were of top priorities. JCDecaux always strives for the design of street furniture to integrate with each city’s unique architecture and contribute to the beautification of public spaces. Therefore, the company has consistently collaborated with prominent international and national architects, construction artists, and designers to create new street furniture for the cities we work with. Below you can see a selection of our successful collaborations with several well-known architects.

”I’ve never disguised my love for France, de Gaulle’s France, and I’ve always tried to make it a better, more beautiful place to live.”

– Jean-Claude Decaux, the founder of JCDecaux
